Last night we were involved in a pretty bad car accident when our car stuck a train. We are so thankful that we are all alright. Connor has a black eye. Poor thing says it doesn't hurt so I'm thankful for that. Jacob and I are pretty sore. He has some nasty looking cuts on his arms and I have a pretty bad mark on my belly that is from the seat belt.
Neither one of us saw the train and we BOTH looked to see if there was one. It was an empty train with no lights and no reflectors of any kind. When we came over the hill we saw nothing. We didn't see the train until it was too late. We hit pretty hard. We were all buckled into our seat belts. Connor was buckled into his booster seat and both of our front air bags deployed. The car is totaled. Our first reaction was to tun around and make sure Connor was alright. He was crying. We were terrified that the train would start moving and we wouldn't be out in time. My door wouldn't open so yelled for Jacob just to get Connor out and that I'd either get my door open or go out his. As he was getting Connor out I managed to get my door open.
The story gets worse... As we are getting out of the car we look up and see what appears to be our house, a little less than half a mile away fully on fire! Jacob asks if we are ok and I said yes just go see if that is our house!! He takes off calling 911 and running to the house. Luckily it wasn't our house just the neighbor burning a large bunch of brush. I guess it was reflecting in the glass doors because it looked like flames were shooting out of it. Jacob had to get all the way to our house until he was sure it wasn't our house. We probably wouldn't have been as worried but right before we left Jacob thought he could smell smoke. So at one point in the evening I was unsure how ok my family was after hitting a train and sure that my house was on fire. How bad could it get?? Turns out we are VERY lucky!
I took a few pictures with my camera phone but they didn't turn out. My cousin Gena took some good ones so I'll post them as soon as I get them from her.
Cars are replaceable. Family members are not! I'm just so thankful.
