It has been a stressful couple of days. Sorry for my lack of blogging. Here is what happened... On Saturday July 1st just about an hour after I took this picture of Sadie and Jacob we sat down to watch the fireworks out at the industrial park here in town. She was nervous when the few test shots went off but was ok. She has been trained around guns and so we didn't worry too much. When they started the opening display she went nuts and somehow slipped out of her collar. She took off. This is so unlike Sadie because she under almost NO circumstance will she disobey Jacob. Anyway it was dark she was running frantic and we lost her. We looked until after 1am that next morning. The next day I got up at dawn and went to look for her. When I got back Jacob went out. We spent the entire day looking for her. The Mtn.Grove officers and several other officers, friends and family also went looking for her but we just couldn't find her. We hung up flyers and called the radio station to have them announce it. On Monday morning I got up and called Market Time on the radio. I no more than got off the phone with them when I received a call from a lady that said she heard me on the radio and told me she had seen her the day before across town on Sunshine Drive and that she was headed toward old bus. 60. We took out again. At one point I swore I heard her whining but there was traffic behind us. At that time I was riding with mom. She asked me if I wanted to go back but I told her no that it was probably one of the dog we had just seen in that area. About an hour later I was back riding with Jacob and he was walking and heard a dog crying when he called out her name. We got in the car and followed the crys. Which led us to where I had been stopped with my mom calling for her. She was hurt pretty bad but she had made it up the hill where I had been. Jacob spotted her immediately as we pulled up. Her feet were huts so bad that she couldn't even walk to him. She just stood there with her legs shaking. Jacob ran to her, picked her up and carried her to the car. She was found over 5 miles from where she had went missing. She had found the railroad tracks. We live near the tracks and she knew that. She continued to follow the train tracks, unfortunately by the time she found them she was already too lost to know where she was and headed in the wrong direction. Her pads on her feet were all wore off from traveling on the hot sharp rocks by the train tracks. She was also highly dehydrated. It doesn't appear that she had drank any water during the 3 days she was gone. We took her to Dr. Jim McMinn at the Cabool Vet. Clinic. He is a great vet that I have worked with a few times at the sale barn. He gave her 4 shots, some pills, and some spray to put on her feet. She is doing well. She is still really weak and has a hard time walking but she is going to live which is what is important! She's on sick leave for a few days. We are just so glad to have her back safe at home. I honestly thought that I would never see her again.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped us look for her. Also to the Mtn.Grove Radio station and to Anita Taylor who called in. If it weren't for her we would have never found Sadie due to the fact that she was in the total opposite direction than where we were looking. Thanks Everyone!
